Temperatures have dropped a lot in the past 6 weeks with longer nights consuming our days. That means we start to focus on the upcoming snow season and with an early snow covering in late April, this year is no different.
The weather turns this week again, with snow forecast. That's great news since the mountain needs a snow base to start building for the 28th June ski area openings.
There's not many visible on mountain changes in 2014. Most snow users of Mt Ruapehu are waiting eagerly for the new lifts to be installed at Whakapapa.
This will vast improvement for the ski areas, and will gain a reputation with consumers. It is disappointing that the new Knoll Ridge Express that is planned (replacing a t-bar) is not going to go high enough to access further snow terrain, towards and above the Pinnacles.
Off mountain, there's plenty of change. Bring your mountain bikes becuase with the new mountain trails open, this is a must do on no-ski days. We reccommend using a transport service provider. In National Park Village, a new mini-putt complex is being created on the corner of Findlay Street and State Highway 4. This will provide hours of entertainment when you're not doing National Park activities.
Winter's going to be cold and exciting. Time to make plans.
